Our Seniors Program is designed to promote well-being, resilience, and social connection, helping prevent loneliness and isolation among older adults in our community. Through culturally rich and engaging activities, we create a safe and welcoming space for seniors to learn, share, and thrive.

Nova Scotia 55+ Games Society – Explore fun and active opportunities for seniors.
Fragrance Indoor Planting – Enjoy the calming benefits of greenery and aromatherapy.
Spirituality & Resilience – Sessions with African Nova Scotian elders to nurture inner strength.
Wanasa (Storytelling) – Cultural storytelling in partnership with the Sudanese Cultural School.
Self-Massage Techniques – Simple methods to relieve stress and improve circulation.
Tai Chi for Balance & Energy – Gentle movements for physical and mental wellness.
Sudanese Herbal Medicine – Learn traditional remedies and their uses.
Healthy Nutrition on a Budget – Practical tips for eating well with limited income.
Digital Safety for Seniors – How to avoid hacking and protect your online presence.
Home Safety & Fraud Prevention – Stay secure and informed about scams.

A Session with Lina Hamid, MLA for Fairview-Clayton Park
Lina focused on information about services available for seniors in Nova Scotia and fundings that support low-income seniors.
Here is an overview of the few Available Seniors Rebates & Programs in Nova Scotia:
- Seniors Care Grant – Available to seniors 65 or older who live independently and have a household income of $45,100 or less. Grants are $750 for each household.
- Heating Assistance Rebate Program – Helps low-income Nova Scotians with the cost of home heating. Rebates are $400 for each household.
- Property Tax Rebate for Seniors – Helps low-income seniors with the cost of municipal residential property taxes. Rebates are 50% of what you paid on last year’s property taxes, up to a maximum of $800.
- Caregiver Benefit – The program provides a monthly benefit to low-income caregivers of adults with disabilities or impairments who meet certain eligibility criteria. the caregiver will receive $400 per month.





Seniors Home Safety
Representatives from the Halifax Regional Police delivering a much needed lesson on Home Safety for our seniors covering fraud, scam and identity theft.
Topics Covered and Help Links:
- Identity Theft – Thieves use stolen personal info like SIN, credit card or health card numbers, to impersonate individuals, open accounts, apply for credit, or withdraw funds in their name.
- Phone & Email Scams – such as Grandparent and impersonation scams.
- Online Scams – Phishing emails or fake sites trick victims into revealing sensitive information.
- Investment, Crypto & Renovation Scams – Promises of high-return, low-risk investments including crypto often target seniors. Renovation scams are also common.
